The area is popular for golfing, hiking, fishing and visitor attractions and are within a 20 minute drive from the hotel are the beaches of Fortrose and Rosemarkie, where dolphin watching is a major attraction. Nairn is 26.7 miles from the hotel, Fort Augustus 34.2 miles and Inverness Airport is 19.9 miles away.
Muir of Ord Golf Club
Located 5 minutes drive from the hotel the golf club is set in some stunning Scottish scenery with clear views of Ben Wyvis to the north. An interesting and challenging feature is the Inverness to Wick and Kyle of Lochalsh railway line which runs through the course adding to the golfers need for accuracy on a number of holes! Wildlife abounds on the course and players may regularly see red kites soaring above the fairways.
Corrieshalloch Gorge
Corrishalloch Gorge is located on the A835 road to Ullapool in the village of Garve, 44 minutes drive from the hotel. You can walk across the suspension bridge as the River Droma rushes through a mile-long box canyon. Enjoy this 2.1-km circular trail near Garve, Highlands. Although it is a rough winding path down to the bridge, it is generally considered an easy route which takes an average of 36 min to complete.
Glen Ord Distillery
Glen Ord Distillery is one of three storied distilleries which make up The Singleton brand; one of which is in the heart of the Black Isle and is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Their experienced team will take you through an experience full of taste and flavour. Purchases can be made in their gift shop to take home with you after your tour. Various tours are on offer which must be booked in advance and can be done online.
Muir of Ord Village Square
The Ord Arms Hotel is located in the village of Muir of Ord which is a main service centre with railway station, and bus services which stop and pick up outside the hotel. The village has a petrol station and an ATM. There is a good range of shops including a general store, pharmacy, and hairdressers.
Avoch Fishing Village
Avoch is an attractive coastal village overlooking Avoch Bay and the Moray Firth on the south side of the Black Isle. It is well known to visitors to the Black Isle. Boat tours and river cruises can be booked in season. Avoch can be reached from the hotel in approximately 20 minutes.
Ben Wyvis
The mountain is described as a ‘relatively easy climb’ on Nature Scot, but should be treated with respect. The 6.5 kilometre route starts from the car park. The path goes through forestry, and then it heads up to An Cabar and along the summit ridge. The average time to the summit and back is 6 hours.
Black Isle Showground
The Showground holds various events during the year including the famous Black Isle Agricultural Show held in August each year. The show is extremely popular with visitors and locals alike with competitions including cattle and horse sections, parade of farm vehicles and monster trucks. The showground is located 5 minutes drive or approximately 15 minutes walk from the hotel.
The Potter’s House
The Potter’s House in Muir of Ord offers a real sense of friendly highland hospitality. They have an open studio for visitors to come along and participate in various aspects of the ceramics process offering pottery painting and pottery wheel sessions which can be pre-booked online. They also have a variety of wares on offer in their gift shop and also a cafe.
Glen Affric Nature Reserve
Glen Affric contains the third largest area of ancient Caledonian pinewoods in Scotland and has been classified as a national nature reserve since 2002. The forests and open landscapes of the glen, and the mountains on either side, make it a popular destination for hikers, climbers and mountain bikers. The nature reserve is located near Cannick, 45 minutes drive from the Ord Arms Hotel.
